This week Andy sent in a tour request. Once upon a time, Phish set sail for a magical tour dubbed The Island Tour. Per Andy’s suggestion, we will join Phish in the vacation locale of Rhode Island for a bold cover from their ’98 performance in Providence. Catch Phish Phriday every weekday at 4pm, brought to you by Surfside Sustainable Seafood.

Providence Civic Center 4/5/98

SET 1: The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony > You Enjoy Myself, Theme From the Bottom > McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters > Bathtub Gin -> Cities > Sparkle > Split Open and Melt SET 2: Down with Disease[1], Ya Mar -> Prince Caspian > Maze[1] -> Shafty[2] -> Possum[1] -> Jam -> Cavern[3] ENCORE: Bold As Love

[1] Unfinished.[2] Debut.[3] Slow, funky version with original lyrics.

This show included the debut of Shafty, which was teased by Mike in Bathtub Gin and by Mike and Trey in Possum. Disease, Maze, and Possum were unfinished. Trey teased Fire (Ohio Players) in Shafty. The funky jam in between Possum and Cavern featured some stage banter from Trey about the funk jams the band had been playing. Accordingly, Cavern was played in a slower, funkier manner than usual and included some of the older, alternate lyrics. This show is available as an archival release on LivePhish.com.
