Take 2@2 for Thursday, November 30th, 2017 gets into the holiday spirit. Today we are focusing on 2 renditions of the same seasonal song. One from 20 years-ago, and the other from 40 years-ago.

One this date in 1977, Bing Crosby’s final Christmas special was broadcast on national television. Bing Crosby is forever tied to the holidays with his performance of “White Christmas.” There is also his role in the classic film Holiday Inn. On November 30th, 1977 Crosby’s last Christmas special aired. The show was recorded earlier that fall, and a month before the show was broadcast Bing Crosby died at 74. The show is not remembered as Bing’s last television show. During the program Crosby performed a duet with David Bowie. They called their song “Peace on Earth-Little Drummer Boy” as Bowie sings alternate lyrics to Crosby’s performance. Take 2 versions of “Little Drummer Boy.”

The second “Little Drummer Boy” is from Dandy Warhols. They recorded the song back in 1997. A few years ago, they put the song up on their website for fans to download on a pay-what-you-will scale.
