Having a parent that’s absent can be difficult, but when the absence is due to a jail sentence the stigma can add to the stress on a child. That’s according to the founder of The Love Forward Foundation, a non-profit that helps children find an outlet for those emotions.

For this Hear Together profile, we listen to why one mom started a program that sends children care packages with enough material to write at least once a month to their incarcerated mother or father. She believes that one of the best ways to encourage communication and deal with the trauma and stress of incarceration is through the “power of the pen”.
