Pickin’ on the Patio with Bob Keel, Free @ Clementine
Aug 27 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Bob KeelBob Keel grew up in the foot hills of the Appalachian Mountains, in a breakfast community of DC. At 18, he picked up the guitar and was able to discover what he wanted to be doing until he dies. Some people never figure that out, so he considers himself fortunate.
He has written hundreds of songs. It’s what he does. It’s who he is. He says that sometimes writing is the only thing that feels real in his life. The first song he ever learned to play was a song that he and a friend wrote called “The World is Constipated!”
Since then, he has gone on to write songs about people, places, and things that he has encountered on this journey that is life. Most of his songs are about love, but is there a better topic?
So, come on out to the Patio and take a load off while Bob Keel regales you with some acoustic music. Is there a better way to spend a summer’s eve?

Big Daddy Love @ Clementine
Aug 29 @ 9:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Big Daddy LoveBig Daddy Love is a five-piece band with a unique and natural blend of rock, roots and grass that they call ‘Appalachian Rock’. Above the mix, the lead vocals and acoustic guitar accompaniment of their principal songwriter, Scott Moss, command the listener’s attention and call for the harmonies that arise in response. Twin leads of Stratocaster riffs and soaring Allman-esque slide guitar on the one hand, and 5-string Scruggs / Fleck style banjo on the other– like a typical Southern rock line-up, just replacing the second guitar with the banjo– punctuate and emphasize what Moss delivers. These contrasting voices are anchored by a rhythm section that is equally at home in a groove or driving the bus with country, swing, funk or straight ahead rock. Big Daddy Love’s high-energy performances, fueled by this combination of fiery vocals, striking instrumental dynamics that range from bombastic assaults to soothing grooves, have garnered them a strong, passionate following throughout their home region.

Philosophunk Album Release Show, Trongone Band @ Clementine
Aug 30 @ 10:30 am – 11:30 am

PhilosophunkHailing from the mountain town of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Philosophunk is a dynamic phunk/jam combo with elements of rock, jazz, and math-inspired melodies. This wide array of musical identities is brought about by each of its members distinct music backgrounds—all four of its members have been musically involved since they were kids, each of them following unique musical pathways. Within moments of their first jam session, Cameron (bass), Clifford (guitar), Nick (drums), and Alex (guitar, vocals) were instantly fast friends, and the positive energy exuded by each of its members at practice and songwriting sessions combined with their variety of tastes and abilities to form Philosophunk. Ever since that fateful day, the band’s compositions and synergy have carried them forward more quickly than they ever expected, and the members of Philosophunk are constantly grateful for the friends and opportunities that have helped them to create an unforgettable experience that’s reborn at every show. Come out and celebrate their first-ever album, “Live from the Space Whale” for an unforgettable night full of grooving, dancing, and memories!

Shack Band @ Clementine
Sep 11 @ 9:00 pm – 11:45 pm

Shack BandWhat originally started as an organic, impromptu and free-flowing collection of musicians casually performing in the renovated remains of a dilapidated “shack” in Blacksburg, VA has morphed into what is now The Shack Band. Since 2010, things have changed. The band relocated from Blacksburg to Richmond, VA. A true lineup was established, with four members signing on. The songwriting abilities and sensibilities matured and improved. At the start of 2013, the quartet became a quintet with the addition of a horn player adding more complex arrangements and texture to the band’s already well-established sound. But, the one thing that never wavered was The Shack Band’s intent to wow new crowds with their off-the-cuff, high-energy live shows melding funky rock ‘n’ roll and soaring harmonies with a strong emphasis on song-writing.
In 2012 alone, The Shack Band played 120 + shows up and down the East Coast and as far west as Chicago, while performing alongside a number of national touring acts, including: moe., Moon Taxi, The Machine, Perpetual Groove, The Pimps of Joytime, The Heavy Pets, Assembly of Dust, Everyone Orchestra and Dangermuffin among others. Thanks to their raw, infectious live shows and incessant touring, The Shack Band have seen, felt, and heard the effects of their budding reputation and burgeoning fan base. In February of 2012, they released their first EP, Born & Raised, to a sold-out crowd in their hometown of Richmond, VA. For 2013, the goals are simple yet ambitious: hit the rarified level of 200+ live shows, release their first full-length album, and continue to hone their craft while writing and learning new material.

HmfO (Hall and Oates Tribute) @ Clementine
Sep 19 @ 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm

From the folks who brought you Start Making Sense comes the next chapter in their book of rewrites, HmfO.

Hall and Oates are the #1 selling duo of all time. There is no one better than fellow Keystone Staters, HmfO, to bring their music back to the masses. Expect both accurate representations of the band’s material as well as deep explorations into the far reaches of space and back. Possibly a mustache or two. Expect perfection.

Start Making Sense (Talking Heads Tribute) and Mystery Set Tribute @ Clementine
Sep 20 @ 9:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Start Making Sense are selling out rooms throughout the eastern half of the United States. This band is a huge hit, as the Talking Heads are never on tour and the band’s amazing dedication to the music and fun loving attitude has proven to be a favorite at clubs and festivals.
If David Byrne is one of the geniuses of modern times, then Start Making Sense is a tribute to genius. The musicians in this 7-piece Talking Heads Tribute take pride in faithfully recreating the music of Talking Heads entire career, including songs Talking Heads never performed live! Together they bring much of the Heads unique live show to the stage, with front man Jon Braun as a spot-on David Byrne, some have said this is the closest thing you’ll get to seeing Talking Heads again.
