The Magic Beans @ Clementine
Sep 25 @ 9:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Magic BeansSince the creation of the band just two years ago, The Magic Beans have established themselves as one of the most prominent and original acts in the perpetually flooded Colorado music scene and beyond. The group had made a name for themselves with a deep cannon of original songs, virtuosic playing, and fusing genres while connecting with their fan base in a way that is not typical with other bands. Drawing from a wide range of influences, The Beans style can be described as natural and all encompassing, encapsulating the diverse interests of each musician in the band and today’s music lovers into one package. The Magic Beans are well known for going between folk, funk, rock and electronica in a single composition, original setlists each night, and with the added element of improvisation, there is always something special that can happen at every show. The group uses no pre-recorded tracks or samples in favor of a more traditional approach to music; original songwriting, diverse instrumentation, and continually pushing the musical envelope are what set the Magic Beans apart. Seamlessly combining acoustic roots music and traditional instruments with modern technology and electric dance music, the Magic Beans are unique as their place of origin, the Colorado Rockies.

Chamomile and WhiskeyIn just two years, Chamomile and Whiskey has become one of the hottest bands in central Virginia. They have released two albums with the new label County Wide Records, and played hundreds of shows on the east coast. Much of their success can be attributed to their passionate and energetic live performance. A Chamomile and Whiskey show is a rowdy affair, often sending the sounds of whiskey being spilled, boots stomping, and fans howling towards the Blue Ridge Mountains. The strong connection with the audience has given them a number of great opportunities… including shows with Railroad Earth, Rusted Root, J Roddy Walston, The Last Bison, and many shared bills with fellow Charlottesville natives the Hackensaw Boys.
May 24th, 2013 was the release date for “Wandering Boots,” the band’s debut full- length album. From top to bottom the collection of songs is a testament to the band’s eclectic nature. From the raucous gypsy title track “Wandering Boots.. to the smooth country-fied “Impressions”… to the high-tempo Irish tune “Dirty Sea,” the album’s genre bends with each track. Marie Borgman’s versatile fiddle playing is a key component to the group’s adaptability… while Irish and Old-Time seem her forte, gypsy and classical musings are heard through out the album. The contrast between Koda Kerl and Ryan Lavin’s songwriting is another great blend of sounds. Kerl, who penned six of the nine numbers, has a smooth and soulful voice, from the poignant “Long Day” to the pirate-like “Second Lullaby.” Lavin (a native of Galway, Ireland) brings passionate vocals to his tunes, as well his own brand of banjo playing… elevating the energy with every note. The rhythm pulsates with the thump of hungry musicians, a bottle of whiskey and a purpose.
While Chamomile and Whiskey seems to have all the talent and songwriting to make a successful project… they also possess something more. An infectious energy sweeps across the stage when they perform, the love they share for each other and the music quickly and emphatically reaches the audience. As the band continues to write, and tour more extensively, we all look forward to the next phase for these ambassadors of blue-ridge rock.

Brushfire StankgrassMixing analog electronics with bluegrass backbeats, the music of Brushfire Stankgrass is instantly unique. The band has significant crossover appeal with bluegrass/newgrass buffs and electronic music fans alike, showcasing their “modern mountain fusion” with a dynamic live show and a two award-winning albums. Brushfire Stankgrass holds Asheville’s #1 ranking for bluegrass bands on reverbnation.com. Their sophomore effort Microclimates is currently ranked #2 on the Relix & jambands.com radio airplay charts and was named as one of WNCW’s top 100 releases of 2013. The two founding members (Ben and Will Saylor, banjo and guitar) are brothers who have been playing music since the age of three. Together with a rhythm section comprised of Micah Thomas on drums and Daniel Iannucci (both are seasoned and well known Asheville musicians), the groups chemistry is obvious. Their debut album was featured in Relix Magazine’s top radio airplay charts in 2011, climbing as high as #2 and staying in the top 5 for 3 months. Last year’s live performance highlights included nearly 100 tour dates, and several notable festival appearances. WNCW listeners voted One for the Salamanders as a top ten regional release of the year and both albums are currently available from all major online music stores. Microclimates features several top tier guest performers and is on track to remain on the radio charts well into the spring. Brushfire Stankgrass invites you to smell their sounds.
