The Center for Human-Animal Interaction in Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Medicine was established in 2001. CHAI’s most visible program is Dogs On Call, our animal-assisted therapy and pet visitation program in the VCU Medical Center. CHAI brings therapy dogs and their volunteer owners from the community to visit patients and staff throughout the Medical Center and researches the benefits of human-animal interaction. The Center for Human-Animal Interaction offers educational opportunities for medical and other students.
