Many portions of the James River and its tributaries are currently impaired due to bacteria. And for those who swim or play in the River, bacteria is an invisible pollutant that can pose serious health threats.

The James River Association needs your help as a citizen scientist this summer, collecting water samples and recording data to track the health of the river. Sign up for a volunteer training course on Monday, May 12 at Twin River Outfitters in Buchanan, where you will be introduced to sampling methods and analysis of pollutants in the river. No monitoring or science background is required to volunteer.
